Project Management 101: Essential Tools and Techniques for Effective Project Management

Effective Project Management is an essential part of achieving organizational goals and ensuring the successful completion of projects. It involves the application of knowledge, tools and techniques to manage activities to meet project requirements. With proper planning and execution, projects can be completed more efficiently, saving time and resources which is increasingly critical for Nonprofit organizations.

The basic foundations of Project Management are fundamental to the success of each individual project. This will be explored in the upcoming Vantage Point ED Unplugged event on May 29th from 3:30pm to 5pm (PST) facilitated by Koja Consulting Founder, Mel Ifada. This session is titled Project Management 101 and will be an invaluable resource as a starting point, or a refresher for Non Profit leaders and Executive Directors.

About the session

Non profit leaders and Executive Directors often find themselves in the role of project managers, even if they don’t identify as one. Whether it’s organising fundraising events, leading strategic initiatives or managing programs, the fundamentals of project management are integral to the success of these ventures. However, it is easy to overlook or forget about the basic structures and elements of project management.

In this Project Management 101 session, Mel will revisit the basics, providing a comprehensive overview that will benefit both experienced leaders and those new to project management. The session will discuss:

The Pillars of Project Management

Understanding the core principles that form the foundations of successful project managers. This includes setting clear objectives, resource management and effective communication. Otherwise known as the project management triangle, and the relationship between each corner of the triangle.

Types and phases of projects

Exploring the five different types of projects and phases each project goes through from initiation to completion. Mel will discuss how to navigate through each phase to create efficiencies throughout the project.

Elements for Successful Planning

Identifying and planning for elements that can impact the successful outcome of a project. This includes risk management, stakeholder engagement and contingency planning. By addressing these, and other elements early on, you can proactively avoid common risks and ensure a successful project execution.
